Kaka Randeep, also known as Randeep Singh Nabha, is an Indian politician who has connections with Punjab politics. He is a Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. He is four-time MLA, twice from his home town Nabha in Patiala district and twice from Amloh of Fatehgarh Sahib. He has held the position of Cabinet Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare in the Punjab Government.
Randeep Singh Nabha comes from a prominent political lineage which has a rich legacy in the former princely state of Nabha. His paternal grandfather was Shivdev Singh, who was the prime minister of the Nabha state in 1952, and later became an education minister in 1954, according to The Times of India. He is the son of Gurdarshan Singh Nabha, who served as the Congress MLA and cabinet minister for six times, while his mother, Satinder Kaur Nabha, is the first president of the state unit of Mahila Congress of India, as mentioned by The Times of India. In education, he earned his B.A. Economics (Honors) from Government College, Chandigarh, Panjab University in 1986.
In 1997, Randeep Singh Nabha contested for the first time for an assembly seat from Nabha as an independent candidate. In 2002 and 2007, as a member of Congress, he succeeded in winning the seat of Nabha assembly seat. After delimitation of constituencies, he contested and won from Amloh in 2012 and 2017. Randeep Singh Nabha made a claim for Patiala Lok Sabha seat on January 16, 2019, on the grounds of the party’s policy “One Ticket to One Family”. In September 2021, he was appointed as Cabinet Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare
While Nabha was the Agriculture Minister of Punjab, he paid attention to rural development by allocating money towards improvements in villages and infrastructure in his constituency. He prepared a state “vision document” to increase agricultural efficiency and formulated logistic plans for dealing with farm residue.
Randeep Singh Nabha was born in a politically influential family whose father Gurdarshan Singh has been a six-time MLA and a former minister of Punjab State Government. His mother Satinder Kaur is the first president of the Punjab Mahila Congress. Randeep Singh Nabha is married to Behista Nabha who traces her ancestral roots back to Afghanistan’s Royal family. They have two sons named Barkat Singh and Sikander Singh. The family assets declared by him amount to over ₹15.34 Crore with liabilities of approximately ₹12.33 Lakh.
However, Nabha has at times faced opposition from senior leaders of the party due to having independent opinions. In 2019, he criticized the ticket distribution policy of the party in Lok Sabha and called the Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh, as ‘inaccessible’. In 2021, his public dissent against the induction order for cabinet ministers of junior MLAs led to delays in their oath ceremony. His election affidavits show that he is legally clean.
