Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal is an Indian politician from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He is the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the constituency of Ajnala, Punjab. In the past, he had several portfolio ministries in the Punjab Government, led by Bhagwant Mann, and currently, he holds the position of Chief Spokesperson of AAP Punjab.

Early Life & Education

Talbir Singh Gill was born in 1962 in Ajnala, Amritsar district, Punjab, to Harbans Singh and belongs to an agriculture-based family. He studied matriculation (Class 10) in 1977 from the Government Secondary School, Jagdev Kalan, Amritsar.

Political Career

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal started his political career from the grassroots and then moved onto Indian National Congress (INC) before joining Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2015. He was a part of the AAP District President of Amritsar and got appointed as a Cabinet Minister of the Punjab Government after the 2022 Assembly elections dealing with the departments of Rural Development and Panchayats, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, and NRI Affairs.

Dhaliwal participated in his first significant election in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Amritsar through the AAP party but could not make it to the House after losing to Gurjeet Singh Aujla of Congress. In the 2022 Punjab Assembly election, he won from Ajnala Constituency by beating his opponents and became an MLA. In 2024 Lok Sabha Election, he again contested from Amritsar but was defeated by Gurjeet Singh Aujla.

Key Initiatives & Contributions

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, as the Rural Development and Panchayats Minister of Punjab, spearheaded an initiative to counter any encroachments in the government and panchayat lands. As the NRI Affairs Minister, he concentrated on providing better facilities for the overseas residents of Punjab. This included solving their issues related to property and family problems.

Controversy

As per his affidavit for the 2024 elections, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has filed one criminal case from a 2019 FIR. This case is still under trial as no conviction has been recorded against him till the time he made his affidavit.
