Dalbir Singh an Indian politician currently serving as the Member of Punjab Legislative Assembly representing Baba Bakala (Schedule Caste) assembly constituency in Amritsar district under Aam Adami Party (AAP).

Early Life and Education

He was born and brought up in Village Tong in Amritsar district, Punjab. Dalbir completed his senior secondary education and is 12th Pass from Government Senior Secondary School affiliated  with   Khalchian Punjab State Education Board Mohali in 2002. Further he dropped and started driving taxis for his livelihood. Apart from this he worked for the Majabi Sikh community under the All India Rangreta Dal, he comes from a joint family where his grandparents, uncles and parents live together under a roof. 

Political Career

Entered in politics with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2017, before the Punjab legislative assembly elections. He was involved in the community welfare for Mazhabi Sikhs. In 2017 he contested elections from Baba Bakala at the age of 33 using personal resources but was unsuccessful.

In 2022, won the Baba Bakala (SC) reserved seat by defeating SAD’s Darshan Singh Tangra by 19,552 votes.

Key Initiatives & Contribution

Worked towards rural development, built new rural roads, also managed the flood crisis and distributed animal feeds.

He launched the dedicated sewerage plant in 2024 and enforcement was done on illegal mining along the Beas river.

He was involved in a series of legal controversies and court interventions.

He was found guilty in 2023, for breaching the Model Code of Conduct, during the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election. 

He was held by the court for 2022 pandemic-era lockdown violations and highway blockades. By January 2024, his anti-corruption political narrative was complicated by a private financial dispute for which the court had issued his six consecutive arrest warrant for a 2018 bounce cheque case.
