Ganieve Kaur

Ganieve Kaur Majithia is an Indian politician who works as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Punjab Legislative Assembly. She represents the constituency of Majitha Assembly in the district of Amritsar. She is an active member of the regional political party Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Early Life & Education

She was born Ganieve Grewal and spent her early years as a student. She obtained her graduation degree from Jesus & Mary College, University of Delhi in 1996. Professionally speaking, she has been a businesswoman as well as an agriculturist.

Political Career

Ganieve Kaur joined politics prior to the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly elections. Although she was not involved in politics previously, she thought of contesting since her husband, Bikram Singh Majithia, was focusing on his constituency elsewhere. Ganieve Kaur has only been linked with one political party, which is the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and she joined politics through the SAD party.

Ganieve Kaur contested the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election from the Majitha constituency in Amritsar district as a candidate of the SAD. She won the election with 57,027 votes, securing about 47% of the total vote share. She defeated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Sukhjinder Raj Singh (Lalli) by a margin of 26,062 votes. She is currently serving as a Member of the 16th Punjab Legislative Assembly

As a Member of the Legislative Assembly, her administrative priorities revolve around the rejuvenation of the infrastructure in her region, local healthcare and rural development. She is a strong supporter of gender representation and socio-economic empowerment within her electorate, always emphasizing that she governs by considering her electorate as a part of her family.

Personal Information

In November 2009, Ganieve Kaur got married to politician Bikram Singh Majithia. She has two children. As per her official affidavit for election, she has assets valued at around Rs.12.07 crore, while her liabilities stand around Rs.1.34 crore.

Controversy

According to official election affidavits, Ganieve Kaur has no personal criminal cases or pending legal charges registered directly against her.
