Inderjit Kaur Mann

Inderjit Kaur Mann is an Indian Politician representing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the 2022 Punjab Legislative Assembly election. She is currently serving as the Member of the State Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Nakodar Assembly Constituency in Jalandhar District, Punjab. Prior to her entry into politics she was involved in local agriculture and business.

Early Life & Education

She completed her Graduation in Bachelor of Arts from Guru Nanak National College for Women Nakodar in 1988. Before joining politics she was associated with cultivation and owned a construction company. She was the Sarpanch of her Village Bir for over 15 years.

Political Career

Her political career started early in her 30s when she became the Sarpanch of her native village Bir, for over a decade and a half, she served continuously as the village Sarpanch.After that she held the position of General Secretary in Shiromani Akali Dal’s women wing before joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2021.She was also a member of the Committee on Panchayati Raj Institutions and Committee on Co-operation and its Allied Activities.

Since 2022, she is the MLA of Nakodar Assembly Constituency in Jalandhar District, Punjab.  She polled 42,868 votes and won against Gurpartap Singh Wadala  a SAD candidate with a margin of 2,869 votes.  

Personal Information

She is married to Sharanjit Singh, who is a Mechanical Engineer and has a son who is an MBA post graduate and looks after her construction company. She holds the assets of Rs. 91,61,928 (91+Lakhs) and Liabilities of Rs. 23,39,178 (23 lakhs).

Controversies

During an AAP political protest in Chandigarh, Mann quoted a provocative remark against the opposition which follows “we will win 117 seats by putting Knee on neck” for which she was being criticised by the oppositions of different political parties.

She also has  a criminal case that defines the punishment for standard theft involving movable property.
