Jagmohan Singh Kang is an Indian politician who is currently a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). During the starting year of his political career, he was a member of the Congress, an affiliation he maintained for several years. In 2022, after he was denied a party ticket to contest in the state assembly elections, Jagmohan, along with his two sons, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). His affiliation with AAP was short-lived, as in 2024 he rejoined the Indian National Congress.
Jagmohan’s journey to Punjab state politics began back in 1992, when he was elected as MLA from the Morinda constituency seat in Punjab Legislative Assembly. In 2002, he was re-elected from Morinda, and then in 2012 was elected from the Kharar constituency seat. Jagmohan is also the former Vice President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC).
Under the Capt. Amarinder Sing-led Punjab Government, Jagmohan was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister and helmed the Ministry for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Tourism & Fisheries from 2002 till 2007.
After completing his higher secondary education from the Sr. sec School, Sector 23, Chandigarh, Jagmohan attained his Bachelor’s degree from the B.A. DAV college of Panjab University in 1970. In 1973, he enrolled in a Master’s program from the main campus of Panjab University, Chandigarh. Later, he completed his Bachelor of Laws degree from Panjab University in 1976.
Apart from his political career, Jagmohan holds expertise in the legal field as well and is an registered advocate in Chandigarh, Punjab.
Jagmohan is married to entrepreneur Ravinder Kaur. His two sons, Yadavindra Singh Kang and Amarinder Singh, are also politicians.
