Kewal Singh Dhillon is an Indian politician. Currently is the President of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Punjab unit. Initially, he was associated with and built a long career with the Indian National Congress (INC). He was an industrialist before and brought a huge notable corporate welfare in Sangrur. He is a former MLA of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, having been elected during the 2007-2012 and then again in 2012-2017 Legislative elections from the Barnala assembly seat. He has been affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since June 2022.
He was born and brought up in Tallewal Village, Barnala district in Punjab in 1950. He completed 12th grade and is a dropout from his undergraduate (1969-70) from S.D. College, Barnala and went to the US for further business opportunities. Before entering politics, he built a massive empire by bringing PepsiCo to Punjab and creating opportunities.
His career expanded for about four decades, from industry to politics. In 1989, he entered with a Congress ticket for Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency. In 2001, formally appointed as the Vice-President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC). In 2007, he was elected as the MLA from Barnala under the Indian National Congress (INC), against Malkit Singh Keetu of SAD.
In 2012, he was re-elected as the MLA from Barnala, and became close confidant of Cap. Amarinder Singh. In 2014, he was appointed as the All India Congress Committee Election observer.
In 2017, he served as the Senior Vice-President (PPCC) and lost the 2017 Assembly elections against AAP’s Meet Hayer from the Barnala constituency. In 2019, he was defeated in the Lok Sabha elections from Sangrur under the INC.
In June 2022, he switched parties and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and after joining, he contested the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-election under the BJP. Between 2022 and 2026, he became the Vice President of Punjab BJP unit, and worked to build the party’s presence in rural areas and among Sikh voters. In May 2026, he was officially appointed the State President of the Punjab BJP, succeeding Sunil Jakhar, by the National President Nitin Nabin of the BJP.
Dhillon created large-scale employment by bringing Pepsico to Punjab during peak militancy in that region in the late 1980s, established a primary concentrated plant in Sangrur, which generated thousands of jobs for the youth.
People gave him the title of “Vikas Purush”, the man of development, as he worked towards urban infrastructure & sewerage, enhanced connectivity also facilitated with Rs.5.05 Cr. for COVID-19 relief.
Having been brought up in Tallewala village situated in Punjab’s Barwala city, he completed his preliminary education in his hometown. Kewal attended the S.D. College, Barmala during 1969-70, pursuing his Bachelor of Arts degree, but did not complete it.
His father was Late Sh. Sajjan Singh Dhillon. Her spouse also runs a business and looks after the rental and interest components of it with him. He holds assets of Rs. 2,12,12,61,303 (212 Cr+) and liabilities of Rs. 5,39,67,882 (5Cr+).
No criminal cases as such on him, the only thing he holds is related to the party switching from INC to BJP after a huge political career with INC.
