Rana Inder Pratap Singh

Rana Inder Pratap Singh was born on February 9, 1980, into a highly influential political and business family in Punjab. He is the son of Rana Gurjit Singh, a senior Congress leader and former Punjab minister. Despite his deep political roots, Inder Pratap focused on higher education first. He completed his graduation from Chapman University in the USA. Later, he earned an MBA degree from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom.

Before entering mainstream politics, he was a successful businessman. He served as the Managing Director of Rana Sugars Limited for over two decades (2002 to 2024). He is also a director at Rana Polycot Limited. Apart from business, he is a passionate sports marksman (shooter) and has participated in national-level shooting competitions.Political Debut and Landmark VictoryThe 2022 Punjab Assembly election was his very first election.

He chose to contest from the Sultanpur Lodhi constituency in the Kapurthala district. Since the Congress party denied him a ticket and chose the sitting MLA Navtez Singh Cheema instead, Inder Pratap decided to fight the election as an Independent candidate. In a historic performance, he won his debut election by securing 41,337 votes. He defeated his nearest rival, AAP’s Sajjan Singh Cheema, by a solid margin of 11,434 votes, making him one of the few independent MLAs in Punjab.

Currently, Rana Inder Pratap Singh is highly active as an Independent MLA representing Sultanpur Lodhi. He splits his time between state assembly duties and ground-level local politics.

Recently, in May 2026, he achieved a massive political victory by leading his group of independent candidates to win 7 out of 13 seats in the Sultanpur Lodhi Municipal Council elections, successfully defeating the ruling AAP candidates. He remains a strong, independent voice in Punjab politics, focusing on local development, resolving public grievances, and maintaining a dominant hold over his constituency.
