Sukhjinder Raj Singh, known as Lalli Majithia, is an influential political leader hailing from the Majha district of Punjab. Lalli Majithia is known for his involvement in politics for a number of years. Being affiliated with different political parties in the past, he is now associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal.
Sukhjinder Raj Singh was born and brought up in Punjab, possessing a good academic background in agricultural sciences. He holds a BSc (Agric.) degree from Khalsa College, Amritsar, attained in 1978, followed by an MSc (Agronomy) degree from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, attained in 1981. He further obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh, attained in 1992.
The political career of Lalli Majithia began with the Indian National Congress (INC). It was here that he worked for more than two decades as a conventional party worker of his locality. He had quit the administrative position in December 2021 and then joined Aam Aadmi Party in January 2022. Later on, in May 2024, he became part of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Lalli Majithia has fought in four assembly elections from Majitha constituency, although he has not been able to win any election till date. The first time he made a serious attempt at contesting was in the year 2007 on a Congress party ticket. After this, he contested in 2012 as an independent candidate and lost in both the years coming in second place. Lalli Majithia contested in 2017 again for the Congress party ticket.
As the Chairman of PUNGRAIN in the year 2021, Lalli Majithia was involved with the process of procurement of grains in the state and supported protecting the interest of farmers and smooth operation of the process of procurement of grains. As a politician representing the constituency of Majitha, he has also talked about agriculture.
Professionally, Sukhjinder Raj Singh belongs to the group of agriculturists running their family farms. His father is Joginder Singh. As per his official 2022 election affidavit, his family’s assets have been declared to be around ₹5.81 crores in value against liabilities of ₹60 lakhs.
Lalli Majithia has a relatively clean record free of any criminal proceedings. The previous affidavits for his elections have indicated legal cases against him in connection with political protests and demonstrations, and the usual sections of obstructing public servant and assembly are included.
