Sukhwinder Singh Danny Bandala

Sukhwinder Singh Danny Bandala is an Indian politician and also a leading figure among the senior leadership in the Indian National Congress (INC) party. He worked as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Punjab Legislative Assembly for the Jandiala (SC) constituency from 2017 to 2022. He has been holding important executive positions within the regional party setup in his state.

Early Life & Education 

He was born on March 4, 1977 in Amritsar, Punjab, in a politically dominant family as a son of late Sardar Sardool Singh Bandala, who was a veteran two-time Congress MLA and Punjab Cabinet Minister. His formal education ended in Punjab and thereafter he pursued his education outside Punjab, getting an MBA degree from Regents University, London, in 2005. After completion of his post-graduation, he simultaneously handled his farming business along with social activism in the region.

Political Career 

With the help of a strong Congress dynasty, he made his entry into mainstream politics with Indian National Congress (INC), and he worked as the Vice President of Punjab Youth Congress from 2005 to 2014. In his first contest for parliamentary seat in 2009, he contested from Faridkot in the Lok Sabha Elections; however, he lost the election. He won his first significant victory in the 2017 Punjab Assembly Election, winning from Jandiala (SC) by beating Dalbir Singh of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Recognizing his increasing influence in the region, the party gave him the designation of Working President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) in July 2021. He again contested for the same Jandiala seat as incumbent in 2022 assembly elections, but he lost to the AAP candidate Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. In his political career, he has been very consistent in the partisan aspect and never changed his party.

Personal Information

He is a son of the late Sardar Sardool Singh Bandala who was a seasoned Punjab Cabinet Minister and late Gurbachan Kaur. He is married to Anjali Singh, who is a government employee, and they have two daughters. As per his election affidavits, his family assets stand at around ₹2.6 crores without any liabilities whatsoever.

Controversy

As Election Commission of India (ECI), he has been free from any criminal cases or judicial allegations being made against him.
