Veer Singh Lopoke

He is a veteran and a senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and a former MLA representing Raja Sansi assembly constituency in the Amritsar district of Punjab. He has also served as a key organizational strategist for SAD and was the chairman of the Amritsar District Planning Board.

Early Life & Education

His early education was done in Amritsar, where he formed his preliminary socio-Political Views. His Higher education was done at the Khalsa College, Amritsar, where he obtained Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.

Political Career

He holds a decades back  career in politics. In 2022, Punjab Assembly Elections Manjha region saw an important episode in assembly elections. He contested his elections under the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Lopoke lost the elections from his stronghold constituency of Raja Sansi against Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria from the Indian National Congress (INC).

Lopoke Vir Singh has an impressive agricultural lineage being the son of S. Chanan Singh remains deeply entrenched in his native agricultural community by virtue of being a registered agriculturist along with his wife who is a housewife. Controversy

Lopoke’s major legal issue is based on a high-profiled and well-known criminal defamation case, which is caused by the political competition between two politicians. This particular case was filed under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) by the incumbent MLA of the Congress party, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria. Lopoke was found guilty in September 2013 due to defamatory statements made and offensive advertisements placed in the newspaper by Lopoke in his previous election campaign. Lopoke has been sentenced to one year imprisonment, but he was allowed to get bail to appeal the decision further.
